Encompassing the South Pole and covered by a massive ice sheet, it holds about 70% of the world's freshwater reserves, and its melting could dramatically raise global sea levels. Despite its harsh conditions, it hosts unique wildlife like penguins and seals, while human activities such as tourism and research, governed by the Antarctic Treaty System, persist, impacting its delicate ecosystem amidst concerns of climate change and environmental degradation.”
