Assam is one of the 28 states of India. Especially Known for its superior quality tea (The Assam tea plant is indigenous to Assam) and silk (golden muga, white pat and warm eri silk. ).

Digboi is known as the Oil City of Assam where the first oil well in Asia was drilled.. 


NATURE:

Kaziranga National Park (world’s biggest one-horned rhino population) and Manas National Park( Known for tigers and leopards.) are World Heritage Sites. Assam receives more rainfall than most parts of India. 


STATE OFFICIAL ANTHEM 

Assam is the first state to have its own anthem. Lakshminath Bezbaroa, (Assamese, poet, novalist and playeright) was the person to write the state anthem called “O Mur Apunar Dex”, which means “O my dearest country” and It was composed by Kamala Prasad Agarwala. 


EARLY SIGNS OF LIFE 

As early as 2nd century BCE, we observe signs of civilization owing to Rock-cut stupa at Sri Surya Pahar, contemporary with the rock-cut Karle and Bhaja caves of Maharashtra. 


FESTIVAL 

The Assamese celebrate the Bihu festival thrice a year. 


TOTAL POPULATION AND AREA 

31.16 crore (According to the census of 2011, the), Hindu population is around three-fifths of the total population, and one-third belongs to the religion Islam. The area of the state is 78,438 square km. Tribes form the significant minority population of Assam, of which the Bodo tribe has a remarkable population 


PHYSICAL FEATURES & BORDER 

Assam has three physical regions; the Brahmaputra River Valley, the Barak River Valley, and the hilly region between Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur. Assam shares its international borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh, nationally it shares its borders with Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim and Mizoram. 


JORHAT

"JORHAT" means two hats or mandis-"Macharhat" and "Chowkihat" which existed on the two different banks of the river Bhogdoi during the 18th Century, Jorhat was the last capital of the Ahom Kingdom. In the year 1794 the Ahom king Gaurinath shifted the capital from Sibsagar (erst-while "Rangpur") to Jorhat. This town was a flourishing and commercial metropolis but completely destroyed after a series of the Burmese invasions since 1817 till the arrival of the British force in the year 1824 under the Stewardship of David Scott and Captain Richard.
